Functional Biochemistry

We make everything of ourselves from the food that we can absorb and use from what we eat.  So long as our body is gaining all of the nutrients that it needs, and is able to use them effectively, we should remain healthy.  To both make and breakdown anything material, whether that is structural or chemical, we need enzymes.  Nutritional deficiencies can arise because of a reduced nutrients in the food, poor absorption, poor utilisation, or an increased need to make a sluggish enzyme work.  Reduced nutrients in the food can occur because of natural regional variations in mineral content of the soil, over farming resulting in poor soil  quality, over processing of food, or due to poor choices of food being eaten.  Occasionally an enzyme cannot be made to work, due to a genetically inherited fault, or acquired damage as a result of infections, or poisoning by toxic chemical.

The body does not use the fats, proteins, vitamins, in the form that we eat them; the body has to break them down and then rebuild them into something it can use. To work, the enzymes need specific minerals and vitamins, but the vitamin must be in the modified or activated form.  If the body can’t activate a specific vitamin then it is easy to develop a cascading problem, because other vitamins are not activated.  As all enzymes require 1 or more activated vitamins to make them work then many chemicals can’t be made, or broken down.  The treatment is to find the least number of nutrients that has the maximum effect.

Brain and body chemistry is assessed, the cause of imbalance established and, wherever possible, an appropriate nutrient and dose that corrects this imbalance is found.  It is theoretically possible to be able to treat many conditions using this technique, because it uses the mechanism that is natural to the body.   However, when the cause is an enzyme fault that cannot be corrected, it is sometimes possible to bypass the enzyme and provide the body with the end product.  Part of the biochemical assessment is always an assessment for allergy and intolerance

The method of testing is non invasive as it uses Applied Kinesiology, which is testing for changes in muscle tone in response to different chemicals and nutrients.
